Meet the Homeowner and Magnolia, TX
Our homeowner is a mom to two wonderful kids, a wife to a supportive husband, and a doctor who is deeply committed to caring for others. At the hospital, she listens carefully to her patients, guides them through difficult moments, and does everything she can to help them heal, knowing that the trust they place in her is something she must honor. When she returns home, she helps with homework and laughs over dinner with her family. Evenings are her favorite, when the house finally quiets down, and she sits down with her husband to reflect on the day and plan for tomorrow.
Magnolia is a city within the Houston metropolitan area. It is named for the magnolia trees that grow in the area.
The Vision
From the very beginning, our homeowner’s vision was to create a space that felt like Tulum—relaxed, earthy, and effortlessly connected to nature. She imagined walking into a place that immediately brought a sense of calm, as if the outside world had slowed down and time moved a little more gently. Tulum represented the perfect balance of raw beauty and intentional design, where natural textures, warm tones, and organic materials come together in a way that feels both simple and luxurious. Our homeowner wanted that same feeling in her own space- a space that feels inviting and lived-in, a place where you could breathe deeply, unwind, and feel instantly at ease. Elements inspired by Tulum’s architecture and landscapes, such as natural stone, organic shapes, and minimal décor, became essential to bringing that vision to life. Every design choice was guided by the question of whether it contributed to that relaxed, coastal atmosphere. The vision required a space that transported the family to that peaceful, sun-soaked state of mind that Tulum embodies, where nature and design exist in harmony. Every moment felt calm, intentional, and restorative.
Selecting the Stone
Our homeowner sought out natural stone veneer because the material is authentic, timeless, and deeply connected to nature, rather than something manufactured or artificial. She was drawn to the unique character that natural stone offers—the subtle variations in color, texture, and shape that make every installation feel one of a kind. Unlike manufactured alternatives, natural stone ages gracefully, developing even more character over time instead of wearing out or looking dated. When she discovered Lewes natural stone at Quarry Mill, that appreciation for authenticity only grew stronger. The stone stood out immediately for its quality and craftsmanship, and it was clear that each piece was carefully selected rather than mass-produced. She valued the idea of investing in a product that respected traditional building materials and techniques, while still fitting beautifully into a modern design. It was not just a design decision, but an investment in a material that told a story, added value, and created a lasting impression.
About Lewes
Lewes is a timeless mosaic-style real thin cut limestone veneer. The edges of the pieces of stone are completely unaltered. The pieces showcase the natural break that occurs during excavation from the quarry with no sawed or split edges. Lewes has a quintessential historic appearance that takes you back to a time before the advent of modern stone equipment.
Completing the Project
Our homeowner completed her new home build with the realization of a vision she had carried for a long time. She used Lewes natural stone on both the exterior and interior, which played a central role in bringing that vision to life. The stone allowed her to replicate the effortless elegance and earthy charm of Tulum and brought a sense of permanence, serenity, and understated luxury that cannot be achieved with artificial materials.
Our homeowner’s favorite quality of the stone is the way its color combination feels both natural and intentional at the same time. The blend of warm neutrals, soft tans, subtle grays, and deeper organic tones created a look that is rich without being overwhelming. Each stone carried its own variation, and together they form a layered, textured appearance that felt grounded and timeless. The colors work harmoniously, never competing with one another, but instead enhancing the overall depth and character of the space. This balance is what makes the stone veneer so visually appealing.
