Originally built in 1956, this three bedroom two bath ranch style home was ready for a remodel. With great bones and a quiet peaceful location the new owners undertook the task of completely transforming the home. The homeowner’s vision was to have an updated home that retained the charm and feel of the original 1950’s style ramblers. Close enough to downtown St. Paul to take advantage of all the city has to offer but far enough away to truly feel away from it all this home was the perfect location. With being out in the woods the homeowners decided they wanted to use natural stone not only for its beauty but also for its durability to withstand the harsh Minnesota winter.
In their search for stone the homeowners learned of natural stone veneer and thought this would be perfect for their remodel as it could be applied to their existing home without needing a footer to support the weight of full thickness stone. Through some online searching the owners got in touch with our team here at the Quarry Mill. They expressed their vision to transform the curb appeal of the house using natural stone veneer and extensive landscaping. Due to the scope of the project a castle rock style was suggested using the old adage the larger the amount of wall space being covered the larger the individual pieces of stone should be. The homeowners narrowed down their selection but could not decided between the Potomac and Oak Canyon. They liked the contrast of colors of the Potomac but the warm softness of the Oak Canyon. Initially the owners were not aware the natural stone veneers could be blended. After some discussion and an onsite mock up of this new blend there was no question this was the right stone choice.
The home’s interior needed extensive updating to bring it into the 21st century. It was completely remodeled with custom walnut cabinets, a travertine backsplash, granite counters, high end stainless steel appliances, knockdown ceiling, marble vanities and deco tiles. Keeping with the theme of the home the homeowner’s used natural stone veneer not only on the fireplace but also on two accent walls. The Charcoal Canyon stone was selected for it’s color tones that matched the owners desired décor. The Charcoal Canyon thin stone worked great for this interior application due to its light weight and ability to be applied to any structurally sound wall. The medium size ashlar style pieces also fit the scale of the fireplace and floor to ceiling accent walls.
