Mesa natural thin stone veneer is a blend of splitface and bedface sandstone with the recognizable red and copper tones from the American Southwest.  The individual pieces of stone are all cut from the same slabs of red sandstone.  The longer linear pieces are the splitface which are broken with a hydraulic press.  This process is also referred to as snapped or chopped in the stone industry.  The splitface pieces show some linear veining within the stone.  The larger castle rock style blocky pieces are the bedface. The bedface pieces show the tops and bottoms of the sandstone slabs that are split on all four sides to create the rectangles.
