Cabernet Natural Thin Stone Veneer
- Roc C.
My wife and I decided we needed to update the exterior look of our 40+ year old home. After visiting Europe several times, we fell in love with the old-world charm of stone-built homes found in and about the cities and towns of Italy, Croatia, and Greece wherein the primary building material was the abundance of local quarried stone of that era. Thus, we chose a stone veneer that would enhance out home’s Mediterranean style construction, appearance, and feel, yet appear as if it was built in this manner many years ago. After considering scores of stone veneer options by numerous stone fabricators, we kept returning to the exquisite look of Quarry Mill’s Cabernet Fieldledge stone veneer. This mosaic/ashlar blended product provided the perfect authentic, locally quarried stone look we were striving for. For our project, we ultimately decided on the Quarry Mill Cabernet stone veneer due to its natural look, tumbled appearance, lasting beauty, and its relative lightweight and ease of application when compared to its full stone veneer counterparts. I chose natural stone as I was never satisfied with the appearance of manufactured stone. I’ve seen a lot of manufactured stone used over the years in surrounding neighborhoods and it seems to fade over time. As for the stack-stone option, the precision manufacturing, albeit pretty, is unnatural in structure and strays from the authentic stone building one finds in the older areas of Europe. It quickly became clear to me during my research that Quarry Mill not only has access to some of the best rock quarries, having the most beautiful stone, in the US, its fabrication process carefully reveals the beauty and structure of the stone. Its quarry stone selection standards and fabricating process truly achieves an authentic, natural stone veneer. Further, the fabrication process results in a veneer that looks stout and very heavy yet is the milled to thin tolerances that enables a light-weight practical application experience for the contractor, all without compromising its structural integrity. Our project was a complete front and back remodel of the exterior of our home, its planter and walkway hardscape, and our pool and deck. We applied Quarry Mill’s Cabernet stone veneer to a substantial portion of our home’s front facing elevation, the newly constructed front walkway pilasters and courtyard walls, the newly constructed backyard outdoor kitchen, fire table and fire pit, pool feature columns, rear fountain wall, and rear patio columns. The center piece of our front yard is our remodeled courtyard. The Cabernet stone, cobbled pavers, bubbling fountain, and potted flowering plants make this a naturally relaxing and welcoming gathering sitting area wherein we get to enjoy our morning espressos and evening wine and cocktails. Our favorite thing about our finished project is how incredibly well the Quarry Mill Cabernet stone melded with our other design elements to produce an exquisite, beautiful Tuscan/Mediterranean appearance and feel for our home. The Tuscan ethos of our remodel home flows consistently from the front entryway through our home and into our backyard, all made possible by Quarry Mill. Lastly, Quarry Mill’s Brandon Small was instrumental in guiding me along our remodel project. He was helpful in the veneer selection process and provided valuable input on the preparation and application process of Quarry Mill’s product under some unique circumstances, e.g., existing painted stucco underlayment. Kimberly and I could not be happier with the finish project. Accordingly, we are Raving Fans of Brandon and Quarry Mill and highly recommend them for your all your natural stone needs. Thank You Quarry Mill!
Cabernet is a tumbled real stone veneer in shades of earthy browns. The stone has unusually rich and deep tones of brown, gold and some rust tones. We classify Cabernet as a fieldledge style as it has some semi-irregular pieces. Depending on your design preferences and masonry contractor, the stone can be installed in a more linear ashlar style pattern. This thin stone has a relatively smooth texture with occasional ripples on the faces on the individual pieces. The stone is shown here with a half inch raked mortar joint, but Cabernet is also well suited for a flush joint.
